Controversies

– He faced controversy after making an inappropriate comment during an appearance on Mnet’s Wide Entertainment News. When asked what kind of father he would be at 30, he responded, “If I have a son, I’ll give him whatever he wants. If it’s a daughter, I’ll hit her and lock her up at home.” This remark sparked public outrage. C.A.P later apologized, stating, “I’m sorry that my attempt at humor came out differently than I intended. I regret that my entire team is being criticized because of my words. I will be more careful and thoughtful in the future.” Despite his apology, many labeled him as lacking common sense.

– During a live broadcast on May 8, 2023, he swore and smoked while drinking on camera. When fans urged him to stop, he lashed out at them, accusing those who hadn’t watched his streams before of interfering now that his comeback was announced. TOP Media issued a statement acknowledging his inappropriate behavior and said that C.A.P was reflecting on his actions. He further complicated matters by stating, “I’m considering not making a comeback,” and mentioning that his contract with the agency was ending in July, causing concern among fans. The agency, however, assured fans that the planned July comeback would proceed and that contract renewal discussions would take place afterward.
– He later revealed in a YouTube livestream that the public apology had been written by TOP Media’s director, not himself.

Departure from Teen Top

– During the livestream, he shared the reasons behind his departure, explaining that his personality and the demands of being an idol had clashed for nearly 13 years. He described the mental strain caused by the disconnect between his real self, Bang Min-soo, and his idol persona, C.A.P. This growing conflict led him to decide that it was better to leave the group before their comeback began in earnest. He also admitted that being on camera made him uncomfortable and, despite 10 years in the industry, he struggled to look directly at the camera during performances. He said he did not feel a sense of accomplishment or career growth while working with the team.
