Block B (블락비) is a South Korean seven-member boy group managed by KQ Entertainment. The group members consist of Zico, Taeil, B-Bomb, Jaehyo, U-Kwon, Kyung, and P.O. They debuted on April 14, 2011 with the single album “Do U Wanna B?”.

Block B Profile

Block B Facts:

– Block B’s official greeting is “Do you wanna B? Block B! Hello, we are Block B!”.
– Their fandom name, BBC, is the short form for “Block B Club”. The fans are often called “Honey Bee” or “Bee”
– The group debuted under Stardom Entertainment in 2011 but left it in 2013 and signed with Seven Seasons.
– Their new agency Seven Seasons was a subsidiary of KQ Entertainment and later the parent company started managing the group and the label Seven Seasons name was no longer used on their MVs and Merch. The group is labelmates with ATEEZ and Xikers.
– Zico left Seven Seasons/KQ Entertainement in November 2018 and three members, Jaehyo, B-Bomb, and U-Kwon left in January 2023 but are still members of the group.
– Their former agency’s CEO Cho PD created the group with a budget of US$1.4 million and was directly involved in their creation and recruiting process, calling it the “Korea’s Eminem Project”.
– Their album “Blockbuster” ranked in the top 10 on Billboard Korea and Gaon Album charts in 2012.
– The group’s debut performance was at Lotte World. (MCB World)
– Their debut MV for the song “Freeze!” was banned by the Commission of Youth Protection on the basis that it was too explicit to be shown on TV and was only aired on TV after 10pm. The song also wasn’t allowed to be sold to minors under 19 years of age.
– Block B made their comeback as a full group in September 2024 after all members had completed their military service.

Lawsuit Against Stardom & Transfer of Rights

– In January 2013, Block B filed a lawsuit against Stardom asking for their contracts to be cancelled because they claimed that the company wasn’t abiding by the contract of giving them proper facilities and training opportunity and despite having promised to pay them on 25th of every month, the group wasn’t paid since their debut in April 2011.
– They also stated that the agency’s CEO, Mr. Lee had run away with the money he had collected from the members’ parents, around 70,000,000 KRW (approx. 66,000 USD). It was announced that Mr. Lee had committed suicide on May 20, 2013.
– The ruling however, came in favor of the company, as the court stated that it is difficult to prove any claims made by the group.
– Block B announced in August 2013 that they negotiated and transferred their rights from Stardom to Seven Seasons.

Major Works

– Their popular songs include “Nillili Mambo”, “HER”, “Toy” and “Shall We Dance”.

Awards

– They have won multiple awards including “Bonsang Award”, “Best Male Group”, “Best Fandom” and “Idol Icon Award”.
– They won the “Best Star Award, Singer” at the 1st Asia Artist Awards in 2016.

Taeil Facts:

– Taeil never lends his bike because he would feel guilty if someone were to get into an accident while using it.
