Tahiti (타히티) was a four-member Kpop girl group under JLine Entertainment. The group members consisted of Minjae, Miso, Jerry, and Ari. They initially debuted as six on July 23, 2012, with the single “Tonight”. The group disbanded on July 25, 2018.

Tahiti Profile

Tahiti Facts:

– They initially debuted under DreamStar Entertainment as a six member group.
– Prior to their debut, the group had their own reality show ‘Ta-Dah! It’s Tahiti’ with the group’s original lineup and it was broadcasted in many Asian countries.
– The group remained active for seven years.
– The members used to pay for their own plane tickets, hairstyling, and makeup and sometimes would travel by subway because there were no cars available for them.
– Tahiti debuted the same year as AOA and EXID.
– The group considered BoA and SISTAR as their role models.
– Ari revealed that even after four years of debut, the members made no income and ate porridge for meals, sometimes sharing two bowls of porridge for dieting. (Mom Is Watching)

Multiple Lineup Changes

– Soon after the reality show ended, two members Ari and Hanhee left the group predebut and were replaced by Keezy and Yeeun.
– Only months after Tahiti’s debut, three members EJ, Keezy and Yeeun left the group and Ari was brought back along with two new members, Miso and Jin.
– Another member Jerry was introduced in 2014, two years after their debut.
– In 2015, two members, Jungbin and Jin, did not participate in the group’s comeback, hinting their departure from the group.
– The group continued promoting as a five member group for two years and it was later announced in 2017 that Jisoo was diagnosed with depression and panic disorder so she would remain on hiatus. Later she officially left the group in the same year.

Disbandment

– Jerry announced the group’s disbandment on her Instagram, just a day after their 6th anniversary, on July 25, 2018.
– Ari revealed in an interview that during their last two years before disbandment, the group had only one concert in Japan and had not released an album in the last two years, which made it difficult to survive for the members.
– Fans initially thought the group’s disbandment was due to discord between the members but Ari later clarified that the decision of their disbandment was made for the betterment of all the members and so they could pursue their own path.
– They left DreamStar and joined Jline Entertainment but since the agency was new to management and Tahiti was their first group, it is thought that the company severely mismanaged the group.
– Soon after the disbandment, the company uploaded a boy group’s profile GTO on their website, making fans wonder if they neglected the group in order to launch a new boy group.

Major Works

– Their popular songs include ‘Oppa is Mine’, ‘Phone Number’, ‘Tonight’, and ‘TAHITI’.

Awards

– The group won the ‘New Artist Award’ at the 20th Korea Culture and Entertainment Awards in 2012 and ‘New Star Award’ at the 2014 Asia Model Awards.

4. Ari

Ari Facts:

– Ari debuted in Tahiti when she was 19 years old.

Keezy Facts:
