Dreamcatcher (드림캐쳐) is a South Korean 7-member Kpop girl group under HappyFace Entertainment. The group members consist of JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Handong, Yoohyeon, Dami, and Gahyeon. They debuted on January 13, 2017, with the single “Nightmare”. They are currently under Dreamcatcher Company.

Formation of Dreamcatcher

– Dreamcatcher was originally formed under the name MINX. MINX debuted in 2014 and consisted of five members: JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Yoohyeon, and Dami.
– The transformation from MINX to Dreamcatcher in January 2017 involved not only a change in name but also a shift in musical style and image.
– While MINX had a more bright and bubbly pop image, Dreamcatcher adopted a unique concept with a darker, rock-inspired sound and a mysterious, fantasy-like aesthetic. Along with this change, two new members, Handong and Gahyeon, were added to the group.

Achievements

– They became the first K-pop girl group to have a tour of major cities in Europe.
– Their fan signing events all over Brazil were sold out in 10 minutes.
– They were listed at number three on Billboard’s Best New K-Pop Acts in 2017.

Controversies

– In 2019, Dreamcatcher came under fire when Handong was seen donning a wig with dreads during a Vlive.
– Some fans found it inappropriate and demanded an apology. Later on, the company released an apology both in English and Korean.
