OH MY GIRL (오마이걸) is a South Korean six-member Kpop girl group under WM Entertainment. The group members consist of Hyojung, Mimi, YooA, Seunghee, Yubin, and Arin. They initially debuted as an eight-member group on April 21, 2015, with the album ‘OH MY GIRL’.

OH MY GIRL Facts:

– OH MY GIRL was introduced as the sister group of B1A4 who are also their label-mates.
– Their official lightstick is called “Dear My Stick” (dieomaibong).
– The tickets for their first concert “Summer Fairy Tales” held in August 2016 were sold out in three minutes and it broke the record for the fastest sold out tickets for a new group.
– The group gained popularity after participating in the show ‘Queendom’.
– All members moved out from the dorms and YooA lives with her family, Hyojung lives in her own apartment and Mimi, Arin, Yubin and Seunghee live in the same building.
– OH MY GIRL members revealed that the company told them that if the next release after ‘Coloring Book’ didn’t succeed too, the group would disband. The members cried a lot and gave their all to their release ‘Secret Garden’ and it ended up becoming their most successful release and got their first music show win since their debut. (Marie Claire)
– The members joined the agency in the following order: JinE – Jiho – Mimi – Arin – Yubin – YooA – Hyojung – Seunghee.

Former Members

– In October 2017, it was announced that JinE left the group and the agency to recover from anorexia.
– Jiho left the group in May 2022 after she didn’t renew her contract with the agency.

Controversy

– The group was deported from Los Angeles International Airport after waiting for 15 hours in December 2015 when they went to film their album because one of the staff members used the word ‘sister’ to describe the staff’s relation with the members. Due to the miscommunication, the word was taken literally and they were caught for lying.
– The agency also didn’t get the performance visa and failed to disclose their purpose for the visit so they had to be sent back.
– The group faced negative remarks and rumors were spread in the articles that members were there for prostitution as they had over 50 outfits (which were for their performance) and the agency had used the word ‘career women’ to describe the members.

Major Works

– Their popular songs include ‘NONSTOP’, ‘Secret Garden’, ‘Closer’ and ‘Dun Dun Dance’.

Awards

– They ranked 44th in the ‘Most Popular Artists (Singer) – Top 50’ at the Asia Artist Awards in 2016.
– The group has won many awards including multiple Bonsang Awards since 2016.
