– During Treasure’s anniversary celebration on Weverse Live in August 2022, he made a controversial comment regarding Boys’ Love (BL) films. When asked about the type of film he’d like to star in, he mentioned a romantic comedy and commented that BL “isn’t bad.” Referencing their 2021 BL web drama, he questioned if it could be considered a romantic comedy, adding, “Between a man and man is weird,” eliciting strong reactions from his group members. Short clips of his comments resurfaced on social media, with one tweet labeling Haruto as “homophobic” gaining significant attention. In a longer clip shared in his defense, Haruto tries to clarify, stating, “I don’t mean it like that. As long as you don’t cross the line. I think that will be a great plot. It was great. I didn’t say I didn’t like it.” The controversy has sparked discussions among fans.
– He was under fire before the group debut and faced criticism for alleged disrespect toward seniors and engaging with sasaeng fans. A forum post accused him of conversing with sasaeng fans, sharing selfies to prove his identity through a private Instagram account. The post claimed he sent photos, videos, and video chatted to show off gifts received from other fans. Haruto was previously involved in a scandal where he raised a middle finger, explained by fans as a cultural gesture.
