Most Enhypen members began their trainee journey early when they were in elementary school and middle school. For example, Enhypen member, Jungwon became a trainee when he was only 13 years old, and Heeseung joined Big Hit Music as a trainee in 2016 when he was 14 years of age. All Enhypen members participated in the survival competition “I-Land” as contestants and were chosen as the final members of the group in the finale of the show. On November 30th, 2020, Enhypen finally debuted with the EP “BORDER: DAY ONE” under BE:LIFT Lab which is a joint venture between HYBE and CJ ENM.

– Heeseung was born on October 15, 2001, and is 22 years old.
– Jay was born on April 20, 2002, and is 22 years old.
– Jake was born on November 15, 2002, and is 21 years old.
– Sunghoon was born on December 8, 2002, and is 21 years old.
– Sunoo was born on June 24, 2003, and is 20 years old.
– Jungwon was born on February 9, 2004, and is 20 years old.
– Ni-ki was born on December 9, 2005, and is 18 years old.

Enhypen members were the following ages at the time of their debut in 2020: Heeseung was 19 years old, Jay and Jake were 18, Sunghoon was 17 (almost 18), Jungwon was 16, and Ni-ki was 14. Ni-ki is the maknae (youngest) in Enhypen and he has been active as a dancer since he was in elementary school. In most K-pop groups, the usual age of the maknae line is 14-16 years. The age gap between the oldest and youngest member of the group is four years.
Heeseung is the oldest member of the group but he chose not to become the leader. During the 40-day leader selection process with him and Jungwon as candidates, he wanted Jungwon to become the leader, who is the second youngest member of the group and so Jungwon was finally announced as the leader of Enhypen. This case is similar to Le Sserafim where the oldest member of the group, Sakura, did not want the leadership role, and instead Chaewon, the second oldest became the leader. It was most commonly seen in the second generation of K-pop that the oldest member automatically was assigned the leadership position.
