Bullying Scandal & Departure from LE SSERAFIM
– Prior to debuting in May 2022, several bullying allegations resurfaced regarding Garam in early April 2022, and HYBE denied the accusations in response at the time.
– Fans were not pleased with the scandal, and “#Garam_Out” and “#김가람_탈퇴해” started trending in South Korea and worldwide.
– She debuted in LE SSERAFIM on May 2, 2022, and just after two weeks after her debut, on May 20, 2022, it was announced that Garam would take a hiatus due to psychological issues related to the ongoing bullying scandal.
– On May 16, 2022, a document showing Garam as a perpetrator in a school violence committee meeting was released, along with more evidence.
– A person who claimed to have been bullied severely by Garam and her friends shared their experience through a legal representative on May 19, 2022. The victim claimed that they had to transfer schools, receive counseling, experienced extreme anxiety, suffered from panic attacks, and once attempted suicide. In response, HYBE releases a statement denying the allegations and maintaining their position.

Garam’s Response to Bullying Allegations
– Twenty days after her departure from LE SSERAFIM, on August 10, 2022, Garam released a post denying the accusations through her friend’s Instagram account. She said that she was scared of all the allegations against her and claimed that she did not bully anyone, hit or assault anyone, smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, or was forced to transfer schools.
– She admitted that her actions were immature and incorrect and explained the disciplinary action she faced from the school violence committee.
– Garam shared that when she was in her first year of middle school, a classmate named Yoo spread gossip and posted photos of other students in their underwear.
– In an attempt to help the victim, Garam confronted Yoo and used inappropriate language. She admitted that she was unaware of the difference between minority and majority at the time, so the school violence committee disciplined her.
– HYBE released a statement on August 11, 2022, that any further comments are inappropriate due to the termination of Garam’s contract.
