Fan Displeasure Over The Voting System Of R U NEXT?
– On June 23rd, Toss Bank announced its latest collaboration with the upcoming girl group survival program ‘R U Next? Produced by HYBE Labels
– Netizens are not happy with HYBE’s current voting system’s collaboration with Toss Bank, since it’s unfair and the voting system would be completely biased.
– Due to the ranking system structure, the voting might only favour one Contestant more and the rest might not get voted according to their skills and talent.
– In Toss anyone over 17 can open savings accounts and will be able to select a contestant of their choice.
– The voting and amount saved under each contestant will be shown in the form of these savings accounts.
– Many fans are uncomfortable with this capitalistic way of showing support.
– Fans showed their disapproval and left comments like “Reminds me of ‘Debut or Die’,” “This will simply have the one with the most money to save make her idol win,” and “Who came up with this stupid idea?”.
Controversies:
– HYBE received major criticism for allowing a 12-year-old contestant Ena to enter an extremely competitive and exhausting survival show, K-pop fans were riled up and criticised HYBE and Ena’s parents for allowing a 12-year-old child to participate in the survival competition.
– HYBE Labels was under fire for negatively portraying a younger contestant Iris, as a demotivated contestant. Netizens expressed discomfort over this. The editing of the Survival show made her look negative and demotivated with Aiki, a coach on the show, also confronted her for that. The viewers were saying that her actions were scripted and it was easy to target her since she’s not Korean and doesn’t know Hangul well.
– Viewers were naturally concerned when they learned that the group of contestants, including two 15-year-olds, were performing Chunga’s “Dream of You” song for the “Heel Choreo Mission” which has some very ill-fitted lyrics for the young contestants to sing.
– HYBE Labels once again received a negative reaction from the viewers after the surprise elimination of their all-rounder contestant Chanelle Moon Thomas. Their following on platforms dropped drastically and there were rumors of sending protest trucks to HYBE.
